Scared of surgery
Tuesday, Sept. 28th I went to see the surgeon about getting my gallbladder taken out and to hear all the possible complications that could happen is really making me nervous. I know that this is a routine surgery and that a lot of people get this done all the time, as a matter of fact the surgeon told me it is hundreds of thousands each year, but for my asthma and sleep apnea, which I didn't even know snoring was a form of sleep apnea, to be a factor for even further complications really has me scared to my core. This is going to be the first time I am being put to sleep for surgery. I have only had one surgery done before and that was a c-section and that was planned because during my pregnancy I developed gestational diabetes and my OB thought that the baby was going to be about 10 lbs., which he wasn't he came out 8 lbs 12oz, and countless dental work done because when I was about 12 yrs old I broke my two front teeth which were already my adult teeth and have had many complications since. But even thought I have already gone through so much I just can't shake this bad feeling. I haven't had an asthma flair ups in 8 yrs and I am so worried that it will decide to act up either while I'm in surgery or right after. My fiance calls me a worry wort and maybe I am but can you blame me, this is my first surgery with me being asleep. I have been gassed before for dental work and the dream I had was so weird, but is that the same? I have tried to do research using the words complications, asthma, and gallbladder surgery, and several different variations, but I still cannot find anything. I can only hope for the best and try to take my mind off of that bad feeling. Some times I hate woman intuition, ha ha ha.

Emmie,
ReplyDeleteI think your surgery will go great, and my prayers are with you. My fiance also calls me a "worry wort". It comes with my anxiety. It seems to me you might have some anxiety yourself. You should'nt worry to much. I also do not think that the gas used for dental work is the same as being put to sleep for surgery. I could be wrong though! It could be just a stronger dose for surgery. I hope all goes well!! im sure it will!
I also agree that I hate "womans intuition" at times.
Emily,
ReplyDeleteI too recently had my first experience with surgery and I was worried also. I had to have some dental work done a while ago and they hadn't given me laughing gas which made me sick so when I went in for my recent surgery I told them I couldn't have gas so they put me to sleep through my iv which was really nice. All I remember was them telling me I was gonna get sleepy, than waking up. I'm sure you will do just fine and its normal to be worried about these things.
I have an active two year also and I'm always worried that he's gonna get hurt and my husband says i worry to much. Good luck to you.
I hope your surgery goes well. I've been put to sleep for surgeries 5 different times, and let me tell you I still get very scared! I didn't have any extra risks, but I still would be scared about it... it is a risk. It sounds like you need your surgery. So good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteThe most scary thing in my book, is of not knowing. By not knowing you tend to make that fear much more worse. Your imagination begins to run wild, and before long you have scared yourself senseless.
ReplyDeleteTake a deep breath and know that there's an angel in your corner that angel is there to walk with you, protect, and get you through this.... Just remember that and I promise you will be ok.
